Our Origin
Hello — I’m John, the owner and founder of 106radio.com. The station began in August 2004, inspired by my best friend’s birthday on October 6 — which is where the name “106radio” comes from.
I was heavily influenced by early internet rock stations like Festerhead and KNAC. Their impact pushed me to create something similar — a station focused entirely on the music, without the limitations of traditional radio.
Our Journey
As operating costs increased over time, I began reaching out directly to record labels. What followed was incredible support — connections with industry professionals and artists who helped shape the station into what it is today.
Many of these relationships were built through simple emails, but they became the backbone of WNRF-DB’s growing music library and continued evolution.
The Meaning Behind WNRF-DB
Adopting the WNRF-DB call letters helped bring a more professional identity to the station. It opened doors within the music industry and gave 106radio.com a stronger presence when working with labels and artists.

Over the years, 106radio.com has gone through multiple redesigns and technical upgrades. I’m not formally trained in web development, but this station has been a hands-on learning experience from day one.
