Hello, I’m John, the owner and founder of 106radio.com. I’d like to take a moment to share the story behind our internet radio station and what we stand for.

Our Origin
106radio.com was born in mid-August of 2004, inspired by my best friend’s birthday on October 6th—hence the name “106radio.” I had always been drawn to the world of internet radio stations like “festerhead.com” and the legendary “KNAC.com.” These platforms showcased a mix of classic rock, alternative, and heavy metal music that resonated deeply with me. I wanted to be a part of this vibrant online music scene, but I had a unique vision. I envisioned a station free from commercial interruptions and I wanted to eliminate the need to play my own cassette tapes or CDs, which often limited the number of songs I could enjoy. To bring my vision to life, I decided to create my very own internet radio station.

Our Journey
As time passed, the cost of purchasing music became increasingly prohibitive. So, I decided to reach out to music labels directly and ask for permission to feature their music on 106radio.com. The response was overwhelming, and I was welcomed with open arms by many wonderful people—individuals I now consider friends even though we’ve never met in person. Our communication has been solely through emails, but these “friends” generously shared their music and even introduced me to talented artists who created the incredible music we feature on our station.

To streamline our efforts and better communicate our mission, we introduced WNRF. This initiative made it easier for us to approach labels and request the latest songs to add to 106radio’s expanding music roster. WNRF was born from our passion for discovering and sharing new music.

Evolution and Learning
Since our inception, 106radio.com has undergone several website redesigns. I must admit that I am no web designer, and my resources have always been limited. However, this journey has been a real-life, on-the-job training experience for me. We’ve had our share of successes and challenges in website design, but what has remained constant is our commitment to providing a platform where we can enjoy the music we love.
